Gotta assume this tone, along with Heartwork from Carcass (both engineered by Colin Richardson) had a huge role in making the Peavey 5150 the standard high gain metal amp. This preset was created by first using a Block Letter 5150 to match the source tone as close as possible, and then dialling in Helix to closely match the tone of my amplifier. The amp was set to the green channel, but the Helix's Red Channel emulation was able to get surprisingly close, all things considered. This was a tedious back and forth of adjusting amp and pedal settings, and finding the right cab/speaker/mic combo, and REALLY focussing on the tone.

Finding a cab that captured the essence of this tone was what was the hardest part - luckily I have a Marshall 1960TV with early 90's Greenbacks which had a particular speaker that got really close. There are a lot of folks out there deconvolving directly from the album, and while it can work OK to an extent, I find using an appropriate normal speaker IR works MUCH better if you're willing to put the work in to find the correct speaker/microphone etc.

Included is 1 Helix Preset and 1 Cabinet IR.

Absolutely no involvement from Machine Head or anyone other than myself. You can decide for yourself how close this sounds.

You can hear the results below.
