SHOTGUN - MACHINE HEAD ARTIST KEMPER PROFILE
Gotta assume this tone, along with Heartwork from Carcass (both engineered by Colin Richardson) had a huge role in making the Peavey 5150 the standard high gain metal amp. This profile was created using a Block Letter 5150 from the first year of production.
Finding a cab that captured the essence of this tone was what was the hardest part - luckily I have a Marshall 1960TV with early 90's Greenbacks which had a particular speaker that got really close. There are a lot of folks out there deconvolving directly from the album, and while it can work OK to an extent, I find using an appropriate normal speaker IR works MUCH better if you're willing to put the work in to find the correct speaker/microphone etc.
There are 2 Kemper Profiles - one with the SD-1 in the chain, and one using the Kemper Drive before the amp. If you have a real SD-1 you may like to disengage that FX block and use your real pedal. I used the same IR as on the amp example, and its included in the profile in the cabinet slot as a .kpir. These are Direct Profiles and should sound amazing with a variety of different cabinet IR's if you so wish. You can hear the results below.
